Support for teens who feel overwhelmed and the parents who care deeply
Being a teen today is a lot. Between school stress, social dynamics, family stuff, and the constant noise of digital life, it’s easy to look “fine” while feeling anxious, shut down, or constantly on edge inside.
If you’re a parent, it can be heartbreaking and confusing to watch your teen struggle, especially when they can’t explain what’s wrong or they pull away when you try to help. Therapy can offer your teen a steady, low-pressure place to sort through what’s going on, feel more like themselves again, and build real skills for handling life.
This isn’t about “fixing” your teen. It’s about helping them feel more grounded, clear, and confident in who they are.
What I can help with
I work with teens (ages 12 and up) who are navigating:
Whether something changed recently or it’s been building for a while, therapy can help your teen feel more steady, confident, and connected. And if your teen’s struggle is hard to put into words, that counts too. We can start there.
In my psychotherapy practice in Carlsbad, the goal is for your teen to feel comfortable enough to actually talk and supported enough to make real change. My style is warm, direct, and genuinely engaged. I can be light and playful when it helps your teen open up, and serious when it matters. Many teens tell me it feels surprisingly easy to talk in session, even if they were unsure at first.
Sessions have enough structure to feel supportive, but not so much that your teen feels judged or analyzed. We move at a pace that feels doable, and I tailor therapy to your teen’s personality, needs, and goals.
Depending on what your teen is dealing with, I may integrate:
Some teens come in for therapy for anxiety, social concerns, or school stress and want practical tools right away. Others need a steady space to sort through friendships, self-esteem, family stress, or big emotions. Either way, this is not one-size-fits-all teen counseling. We adjust as we go, based on what’s helping.

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and I focus my practice on individual therapy for teens and adults.

I offer local support
In my experience, teens do best in therapy when they feel ownership of the process. That means I do not provide regular session updates to parents. At the same time, confidentiality is always held within legal and safety limits, and I will communicate with parents when clinically necessary. I often encourage teens to invite a parent into a session occasionally for a brief check-in. These sessions help us get on the same page about support at home while keeping therapy a space where your teen can speak openly.
Also, if your teen is struggling, you are carrying a lot too. I strongly encourage parents to have their own support during this season. If you already have a therapist, great. If you don’t, I’m happy to help. I can refer you to high-quality, trusted therapists in the area who work with parents, anxiety, stress, and family dynamics. Many parents find that having their own space to process, regulate, and get perspective helps them feel steadier and more effective at home.
If your teen is struggling, or you’re not sure what kind of support would help, I’d love to connect. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so you can ask questions, get a feel for my style, and we can both see whether it’s the right fit. Parents are welcome to call on their own, or we can include your teen if that feels best.
